TIME PERIOD: Before the Events depicted in Episode I
2100 Hours
Kynes walked slowly into his quarters, rubbing his eyes in fatigue. He was unusually tired for the time of the day. He instructed the computer to begin playing Beethoven's 5th Symphony through the speakers, as he sat down and began to read "The Tempest," an ancient work by the renowned terran playwright William Shakespeare.

TIME PERIOD: After the events depicted in Episode I. On Route to Starbase 29.
Kynes looked about his quarters, overlooking the damage and disarray the KLingong attack had caused. Picking up the occasional broken object, he wandered the decimated quarters. Sitting on a tattered couch, he took out a PADD and read the Damage Reports.

"Enter," said Kynes as he read one of his favourite plays by Shakespeare, 'The Merchant of Venice.' "Oh, Mr. Vanlen! How pleasant it is to see you. What was it you needed, Lieutenant?"

"A worthy endeavor, my dear fellow," said Kynes with a friendly tone, receiving the mug of whiskey, and taking an elegant sip from it. He was more accustomed to more refined alcohols, but the whiskey had it's own harsh ring to it, that he found enjoyable. "So, Mr. Vanlen... What brought you into starfleet?"

"Well, my mother and farther are both captains, as have been everyone on both sides of my family dateing back to early Briten. Lets see, my Mother has the USS Portia, its another of these fine Excelsiors. And my dad has one of the prides of starfleet, the USS Hibrina, a Constellation class. Brand new, shes one of the fastist and well armed ships we have. I hope that by the time i make captain we still have them" I say with a grin. "So what brought you into starfleet sir?" i ask...

While Kynes listened to the name 'USS Hibrina,' Kynes' eyes lit up. "Oh yes, the Hibrina. I knew your father, John Vanlen from a mission we did together based on Starbase One. He is a very honourable man, and I'd be hard pressed to find a man with more integrity and competence then he..."
Kynes reverted back to Vanlen's question.
"It was something of a dream of mine to become a captain. I was thinking of becoming a musician, actually before joining starfleet. But as I grew older, I began to see the adventure and attraction in 'seeking out new life.' So I joined starfleet at age 19, and haven't looked back since."
Kynes finished drinking his whiskey, and placed the mug on the coffee table.
"Were you on any postings before being assigned to the Endeavour, or are you a fresh officer?" Kynes asked.

"Umm, well lets see, with my parents consent i was aloud to sign up at 16, when i was 19 i was granted rank of Ensign and was posted to admiralty at Lunerpolis base on the moon. where i served for lets see, 3 and a half years, then i was transfered out here to the station and then your ship about a month ago. So its my first time as an officer aboard ship, but i have served elsewhere, and i was acctualy born and raised aboard my fathers ship. I helped with what i could intil i was 16 and could join up. So i have been navy for my whole life in truth. And i cant wait till i get my own command, mabey i will be lucky and get a constellation?" i add, as i finish my whiskey and set in down...

"Starfleet's always seeking out eager young officers such as yourself," said Kynes, hearing the doorbell.
"Enter!" Alexander said, wondering who was at the door.

"No, not at all, Vorak. Take a seat Vorak!" said Kynes. Although Alexander did highly regard Vorak's duty to work as a valuable trait, his inability to relax off duty was irritating from time to time. "Stay a while Vorak, I was just talking to Lieutenant Vanlen here..."
