Chapter 1: Infinite Peril

USS Endeavour
The Constitution Class USS Endeavour along with the USS Tristar soared Easily through Space, on a course for The Klingon Neutral Zone, on a Standard Patrol. On the Bridge, Captain Alexander Kynes stood and ordered:
“Helm take us out of Warp, one Half Impulse” The Helm officer used his nimble Fingers to take the Ship out of Warp
“Standard Patrol Pattern” Kynes Ordered
“Aye sir,” Replied Zala
Several Minutes Passed before Lt Matina Jade, the Assistant Chief Security Officer called out:
“Klingon Bird Of Prey De-clocking of the Port Bow, she’s Charging Weapons”
“Red Alert, raise Shields” Ordered Kynes “Hail Them”
Jade worked at her Controls for Several Seconds before:
“Got them”
“This is Captain Kynes of the USS Endeavour, identify yourself” Kynes Said
Suddenly the Bird Of prey fired Disrupters on the Endeavour causing the Ship to Shudder

“Return Fire” Yelled Kynes as the Ship shuddered again
Several Phaser blasts shot out from the Endeavour, but the Klingon Ship Jumped to Warp
“Follow them, they’ve committed and Act of War by attacking us” Kynes ordered
“Aye sir” Replied Zala
The Endeavour and the Tristar Jumped to Warp in pursuit of the Klingon Ship

The Klingon ship eventually Dropped out of Warp and Entered a Nebula
“Follow them In” Ordered Kynes
The Endeavour Slowly entered the Nebula
“Sensors” Ordered Commander Vorak
“Picking Up Low Level Tachyons” Reported Jade
As the Endeavour advanced further in the Reading increased until suddenly
“Captain, Picking up Three Klingon Battle Cruisers they’re Powering Weapons” Jade exclaimed
“Helm Get us out of Klingon Space get us to the Tem Trag Nebula on our Side of the Neutral Zone” Kynes ordered
Zala piled the new course into his Console and the Ship turned and Warped back to Federation Space

As the Endeavour approached the Tem Trag Nebula she dropped out of Warp, as she did the Klingon Ships Unleashed a Massive Barrage of Disrupter Fire at the Endeavour causing Critical Damage. The Chief of Security ran onto the Bridge only to be killed by a Falling piece of Ceiling. Through the Com-Link a Report From Engineering Came Through:
“Bridge, the Chiefs Dead and the Assistant Chief in Sickbay, Sickbay reports he’ll be back soon”
“Understood Ensign” Kynes Said
Another Brace of Disrupters Slammed into Endeavour’s Shields causing the Bridge Crew to be thrown to the Floor

Over at the Security Jade pulled herself up unharmed but for the scratch on her forehead. She groaned and then cried out as sparks flew from her station, she moved avoiding them. She then saw her senior officer, the head of security lain on the deck. She checked him, dead. Dam! Leaning up she moved into the weapons consol, or what was left of it. Commander Vorak was sat unconscious at his science consol before hearing her cry and awoke.
His consol was flickering but still active. He got up and walked over to the Captain and helped him into the Con.
"Captain are you injured?" he asked.
Bodies lay strewn across the bridge. Fires slowly crackled in the momentary tranquility... Captain Kynes took Vorak's hand, and stood up. Suddenly, he noticed a stinging pain was flooding his head. He reached up and touched his forehead; a large cut.
"Damage Report!" cried the Captain, dazed by the explosions.
The voice of the operations officer answered back.
"We've lost Contact with anything below D deck! Life support is critical on all decks..."
Kynes stared into the flickering screen, watching the flock of Klingon ships dot around in the distance. He never knew this would be the reality of his first mission. It was hard to remember life before Endeavour... before answering the Federation distress call... Before the Endeavour was attacked by a fleet of renegade Klingons.
For a few seconds, Alexander observed the realities of the crisis. They were outnumbered, heavily damaged, and void of allies. The USS Tristar lay in ruins; no doubt their crew had perished in the firefight.
Kynes rushed over to the scanner, and examined the USS Endeavour's surroundings. Several asteroids speckled the barren space, and a large Nebula resided quite close to their location.
"Lt. Zala, set us on a course to the Nebula," instructed Captain Kynes, standing tall, as the vessel's engine began to moan it's symphony of motion.
"It's not over yet," Alexander whispered to himself.
Athrun was helping an engineer do some work before the console exploded and the engineer was killed. He looked at Chief Helmsman, she was hit with Shrapnel, he then looked at the helm console, or what was left of it. He took it Helm of the ship. "Commander, Captain, They destroyed our warp engines, and Impulse engines are down to 60%." Athrun said

"Please please sit, I will take over" said Vorak taking his station from the Captain, "A good idea however Captain, we can still make it inside the Nebula and have time administer repairs. Klingons sensors are not of high caliber, they prefer to polish their weapons instead. Recommend we proceed Captain. Operations officer, head down to the engine room and take over there, the chief engineer is dead if reports were correct. I will transfer Operations to my console."
Jade tapped over the small consol and reported.
"Phaser are burnt out" she reported "5 torpedoes remaining in port launcher."
"Lieutenant Jade, keep your finger on the trigger. We'll have to make a run for it. Commander Vorak, initiate a subspace waveband, to cloak our position from the Klingon scanners. We'll have to make a run for it. Increase speed to full Impulse." Kynes Ordered
"Understood" Vorak said and followed and admitted the band.
The Ship moved forward but soon his console began to flicker and bleep.
"Captain, a battle cruiser has detected us and is moving forward. I may not be long before they alert the rest of the fleet. Lt Jade I suggest you ready that trigger." Vorak reported
"Torpedoes loaded and ready Captain, target moving within firing range" she reported her hand on the 'trigger'.

"Target their Engines systems and fire," ordered the Captain. Things would be easier if they didn't have a Klingon battle cruiser tracking their itinerary.
These Renegade Klingons were not to be underestimated.
The torpedoes rocked the battle cruiser, and the Klingon vessel came to a halt soon after the projectiles had impacted the engine nacelles.
"Good work, Mrs. Jade," said Alexander with an expression mixed with relief and pain. Many of those who had died in the battle had been new transfers, as it was a new assignment, but he had gotten to know many of them as good friends. Now, nearly 3 quarters of his crew lay lifeless somewhere onboard the ship.
It was shortly after that the Endeavour slipped into the Nebula. It was uncertain whether the Renegades had detected their new coordinates.
The USS Endeavour flew deeper and deeper into the Nebula
"I recommend full stop for repairs Captain, I will be the engine room and will return with a full damage report" he said heading for the turbo lift.
Kynes nodded as Vorak headed out on the operational turbo lift.
"ETA for the Nebula's center?" Captain Kynes asked.
"4 minutes," came the reply.
The captain nodded.
"We'll wait until we reach the center, then shut down all non-essential systems except sensors for repairs."
A moment passed, then Kynes opened his communicator.
"Commander Vorak? What is the situation in Engineering?" he toned through the speaker

The Commander Vorak stood in the engine room, to say it was a mess would be an understatement. Panels and wires hung everywhere, the core was dark and the main consol destroyed.
"The Chief Engineer is dead as are 42% of the staff, the warp core is destroyed, impulse generators are need repairs and main power has failed. Backup systems are failing."
“That good huh" jade said dryly over the Comm. link.

Endeavour finally reached the heart of the Nebula. An external view of the Constitution class refit would paint a picture of dismay. The main saucer section of the vessel was tattered, and a few parts of the hull had fallen off in the firefight with the Klingons.
"Is Communications still operational?" Kynes asked the Com Officer.
"Negative sir, but it is repairable," came the reply.
Flipping open his communicator, he phoned the Executive Officer, now the temporary engineer of the wounded starship.
"Commander, make Communications your primary priority. With our warp down, we won't be able to escape them. We need to send a distress call. Captain Kynes out."
Alexander Kynes walked around the bridge, thinking.
"At the first sight of a Klingon vessel, power down the ship, to dissipate the remnants of our Energy Signature. Should they detect us still, power up and take evasive action."

Back in Engineering Vorak acknowledged the order and began to get to work in what was left of the engine room with the assistant chief operations officer he had sent down earlier. However work was slow with so few men due to the engine room taking a brunt of the battle.
At the moment of his thought the door croaked open slowly and a young engineer came in returning from sickbay.
"What is taking so long down there?" he asked the Midshipman.
"Most of the Medical staff including the Chief are dead, a young Doctor is trying to handle things by herself" he replied.
"I guess we must do this by process of elimination" he sighed "help the Ensign with this I will return shortly."
Several Minuets’ later he walked into the scourged and malfunctioning Sickbay. And saw a young female Doctor working with the overwhelming number of patients.
"Do you require assistance? These men are needed for damage control" he asked her
She nodded, without moving her gaze. She finished scanning her patient and looked around sickbay. Bodies lay everywhere.
"Commander Vorak, could you pass me that scanner?" she asked, pointing in the direction of a trolley, in which she kept her tools.
"Of course" he said handing it to her, "I shall attend to this man" he said taking another over.
He began scanning before noticing he was a senior Engineer. He had to work fast to get him back on his feet.

Meanwhile back on the Bridge Jade worked inside the consol trying to bring phasers back online. She moved out and closed the panel rubbing the muck from her face and sighing. See was no engineer but she knew her duotronics.
"Well," she started looking back at the Captain "Aft and Port Phasers are completely destroyed and will need new ones, but the bow and Starboard I believe I can fix."
"Alright, lead a team in on repairs," said the Captain, as he got down on his knees and began to help repair the flickering communications console
"Scanners have been repaired 100%, sir." Reported an Officer
Captain Kynes nodded, and gave further instruction.
"Begin scanning for the Klingons. No doubt they followed us in. Modulate the scanner's frequency to suit the Nebula's disturbances."
"Aye aye, Captain."
The scanners began searching for their Klingon pursuers, but nothing was picked up. Perhaps they were cloaked, and they were watching the Endeavour right now
"Lieutenant Jade?" asked the Captain.
"Have those repairs been completed to the weapons array?"

Meanwhile Vorak had been successful in Healing Lt Clark
Clark ran down to main engineering From Sickbay.
He walked in and stood frozen for a second the room was badly damage
'Oh for the love of...' he began to say before being interrupted by a bleeping red Light
He read it and started to repair the weapon array power feed

On the Bridge Jade was successful in repairing the Command End of the Weapon Systems
"Good work, Lieutenant Jade," he said, giving a nod of approval to the Security Officer. As the words left his mouth, the scanner console he was using picked up one of the Klingon cruisers faring quite close to their hidden location.
"Go to Red Alert!" cried Kynes, as the whining klaxon began its overture to disarray.
"Lieutenant Jade, ready the bow and starboard phasers," he said with a calm, cool voice that sung through the uneasy silence of the bridge. Kynes opened his communicator, and tapped in acting-Chief Engineer Vorak's com code.
"Commander, have those engines been fixed yet?"
Captain Kynes desperately awaited Vorak's answer, as he prayed that the Endeavour's distress call had reached a friendly vessel.

Clark had put the inter-ship communication feed on loudspeaker and heard a question about the engines and replied:
'Engineering to Bridge, this is Lt Clark, the impulse engines are online and Warp power is fluctuating you can go to warp but the engines might cut out at any moment, we'll try and correct the problem
Commander Vorak’s voice came over the Comm. Link:
"Captain, I am in sick bay. I have left repairs to Lt Clark. Am I needed on the bridge?" he asked.
Suddenly as Clark was working. The ODN access some of the crew where working on exploded
'Engineering to sickbay, I’ve got 6 dead and 6 wounded down here two I can heal myself but the others need a medic..'
'Understood we'll se...' came a voice from sickbay started to say but the comm. feed cut of
'Damm' said Daniel as he ran to the comm. panel and accessed the damage

"Lieutenant Clark, divert all reserve power to the engines. If they get too close, we'll unload some fire upon them, and then take evasive actions, to find another hiding spot. Standby for the command to engage full impulse." The Captains Said On the Bridge

Having coaxed the comm. system back on line he heard the captain
'Aye Captain, power transferred we can warp out no.....' Daniel started to reply but the bleeping light was on again, he read the message
'Captain, we're 10 minutes from a Warp Core Breach and I’m picking up warp signature two light-years of our port bow, it's Starfleet sir three ships led by the Enterprise'

Vorak had rushed to bridge after the Com system had gone dead. He came threw to see a Klingon cruiser of their bow. He sat in his chair and scanned. "Confirmed Captain, Kirk has sent a text only message saying he will be 15 minutes at best. And that is if they can find us. I suggest we exit the nebula and handle things until the fleet arrives. If they can't find us they may be destroyed in the search."
Almost in reply to Vorak’s Comment down in Engineering Clark Checked the sensors just in time to see three birds of prey de-cloak
'Captain Three Klingon Bird of Preys have just declocked of the Starboard Bow' He shouted across the room to the comm. station
"Steer away from the delcloaked vessels, Lieutenant Zala," urged Kynes.
"Lieutenant Clark, it's in your hands now. We'll have to make a run for it. Get whatever speed you can and head for the Enterprise!" Kynes said to Clark
'Warp Speed Now Sir' Said Daniel 'ETA Enterprise 5 minutes'
'Transferring shield power, weapon power and non-essential power' He said
The Lights went of
'Captain Sir all power transferred'


'Captain we've reache...'Daniel started to say but an explosion cut him off
He checked the status
'Captain the warp engines are gone, transferring power to the shields, we made it, the Klingons have broken of pursuit'
A round of cheer reverberated throughout the ship, but subsided quickly, after the crew (coming back to their senses) realized that many of their shipmates; their friends had perished in the battle.
"Good work, Mr. Clark," Kynes spoke into his communicator, exhaling a sigh of relief.
“The Enterprise is hailing Captain, I think it’s time for a Re-fit” Vorak said to Kynes
Jade sighed and sat back in her chair and said:
"Shame we couldn't finish off the rockheads."
"Now Ms Jade that hardly is a way for a Starfleet officer to conduct herself" Vorak stated.
"Comm. Officer, send a message to the Enterprise requesting the three vessels to tow the Endeavour to the nearest starbase."
Turning to Commander Vorak, he was able to crack a bit of a smile.
"Indeed, Mr. Vorak. I think we will need a refit. I'll be in my quarters if anyone needs me," said Kynes, erasing his smile and heading out on the turbo lift.
In his quarters, he collapsed onto his couch and held back a cascade of tears. How the hell was this the way to begin a mission of exploration? Nearly being destroyed by renegade Klingon pirates? He wondered if this altercation would affect the state of peace between the Federation and the Empire.
Within a few days, they would reach Starbase 28 where the Endeavour would go through an extensive refit program. The vessel would be restocked with supplies, and they would set off once again...
Too many lives had been lost this day... but a shimmer of hope loomed on the horizon.

Thank you very much Mr Clark. Perhaps when you're done, I could write a chapter...? If it's okay with you, of course... (Episode 1 and 2 go together, and you would write that... Consequently, Episode 3 and 4 go together in the Valen arc, so I could write that... Unless you already have plans..)

Just a suggestion to any more chapters for any of you. Take some of the relevant and best stuff from the OOM boards and use them in the episodes to give the stories some of the major character development that happens on them. Not all but some. Such as Jade and Rugers encounters and Vorak and Snow etc. This does of course not count side missions, sparing fight, or shuttle races.

I haven't started, is there an exact dead-line on this to be due (man I don't want endy to turn into a school... that means I might fail) Like considering the end of this season will be in the middle of the summer (winter for us southern (hemisphere) folk), does it have to be finished by then? and where exactly would we 'publish' this book? send it to 'publishers'?

I'm doing Episode 2 as a Two Chapter thing

Chapter 2: R and R




Captain Alexander Kynes sat in his chair on the bridge of the crippled starship USS Endeavour. Towed by three Federation starships, the Constitution class vessel sped towards the towering Starbase 29.
"Ensign," he pointed briefly at the communications officer.
"Please send a message to the three vessels that we will need to be dropped off near docking port 4. Repair crews are ready to commence the refit as soon as we dock with the base..."
"Yes sir," said the Com Officer, sending the text message in commendable time, considering the ship's compromised systems.
"And one more thing, Ensign..."
"Yes...?"
"Send them my thanks on their timely arrival to the Nebula."

It was not long before the Starbase loomed into view. Enjoying the aesthetic qualities of the base from the viewscreen, Kynes watched as the Endeavour was loosened from the other ships' tractor beams. Lieutenant Zala carefully piloted the Endeavour into the docking bay, as many of the crew prepared to leave the vessel and enjoy a bit of shore leave after their strenuous conflict with the Klingon Renegades.
Suddenly, a visage appeared on the viewscreen. It was Admiral Graham Dawson, the Commanding Officer of the Starbase and a casual acquaintance of Kynes'.
"Captain Kynes! It's good to see you," Admiral Dawson toned calmly.
"The sentiment is mutual, Admiral," replied the Captain with a small smile. The viewscreen flickered and fuzzed momentarily.
"Your ship is quite battered, but you can trust our repair crews. They are the best in the fleet, and they will look after the USS Endeavour quite well. During the meantime, your crew may relax and enjoy the comforts of our base," said the Admiral.
"Thank you, sir. The Endeavour will have successfully docked within minutes, Admiral."
"That's good to hear. Fleet Admiral Dawson out."
As the final moments of the docking procedure concluded Vorak was still sitting the chair as the rest of the crew began to leave.
"I will get down to the engine room and help with the repairs" he told them before Standing and exiting in a Turbo-lift

Captain Kynes stood and left the bridge, and travelled through the battered corridors of the USS Endeavour, until he found his way out of the vessel, and into the infrastructure of the Starbase. After making a few brief farewells to various crew members as they headed to the promenade, Kynes took the turbolift to Deck 1 of the Starbase. He had to attend the debriefing of the Klingon conflict...

"...We hid inside the Nebula, and evaded the enemy vessels until the Enterprise, the Galway, and the Trident came to the rescue," explained Kynes finishing his account of the battle.
Admiral Dawson stroked his chin and fell into a momentary state of deep thought.
"We contacted the Klingon Empire on this matter, and they claim to never have implemented the order to attack your starship. They also suspect that the crew that attacked your ship was part of a Renegade Organization of Klingon rebels called the Shield of Kah'less. They are an isolationist group, trying to maintain a heightened state of war-like sentiment throughout the Klingon Empire. They have begun to die out, as peace and inter-racial acceptance strengthens, but they still remain a deadly threat to the peace between the Federation and Klingon Empire. They will stop at nothing to keep the Klingon Empire from signing a peace treaty with the Federation."

Kynes remained silent for a few seconds, taking in all of the information. After completely taking in everything he had heard, Captain Kynes spoke.
"How serious a threat is this Shield of Kah'less to the Federation? Is it something to worry about?" Kynes asked.
"It depends how the next few months work out with the brewing plot of diplomacy between the Klingons and our peoples," Dawson replied, stroking his chin once again. Kynes nodded, and hung his head, remembering the battle.
"Captain..." said Dawson in a much more compassionate voice.
"I'm sorry for what you and your crew went through. It's a hell of a way to start a deep space exploration mission."
Kynes nodded, not saying anything.
"Your crew can recuperate here for the next week while the USS Endeavour gets refitted. Alexander smiled.
"I think the crew would be delighted to hear that!"

Vorak came around the corner, into the Engine room, as he came in he was sure he saw someone leave but for him? He never stopped working and that was the way he preferred it, besides if everyone took time off who would there be to help the station crews with the refit of the vessel?
He continued to scan the consol over before setting down the tricorder and opening up the front panel. "Burnt out, replacement needed" he noted into his communicator.


Meanwhile a young Lt. walked around aimlessly on the starship. It was his first Starship duty and he wanted to meet some of the crew. It was his First time on a Starbase at that. Every now and again he would almost walk into somebody because he was in such aw of the size of the star base. Finally he found a higher ranking officer.
"Lad, um...I mean Sir. Um, ye wouldn’t know where the Cap’ in of d'a
USS Endeavour?" Beathan said with his thick Scottish accent.
The captain smiled.
"That would be me," he said to the Lieutenant Junior Grade. Kynes had just left Admiral Dawson's office, and was heading down to the promenade for dinner.
"What can I do for you, Lieutenant?" he asked the Medical Officer. At that moment Lt Clark walked round the Corner

Clark had headed down to the engine room and looked about there was no-one there, so he dis-embarked endeavour and walked around the Starbase.
He walked around a corner and saw Captain Kynes and another officer talking
“Captain Good to see you sir' He said 'Any news on the re-fit, I've looked at the specs and personally, I can't wait to get my hands on the re-fitted engine room”
"We will be staying here for the next week or so, whilst the Endeavour is being refitted," explained Kynes to the Chief Engineer.
"In the meantime, I suggest you rest."
"Well Cap’ in, I be just meetin' the crew, before I get on da ship. I be Beathan you're nu assistant medical officer." Said the Lt in his accent. "Would ye like to have a guest with ya fur dinner?" "I'd be honoured," said Kynes.
It was a short walk to the promenade. As they approached Clark said goodbye and headed of
"What do you feel like eating?" Alexander asked.
"Ah, sir, shall I introduce ya to Scottish cuisine? Wait sir, tell me yur no' a bloody vegetarian? Wait you’re a bloody Vulcan...I guess there goes that idea. All us Scots have ta eat is meat. Like Haggis, its made of sheep...no ya da'na wana hear about it. Their is the MacSweens vegetarian "haggis", but it’s just not Haggis, its, its, its not real haggis. The only thing that’s left from the real haggis is the bloody oatmeal!” He said "Um, sir, um sorry sir about calling ya a bloody Vulcan."
Kynes laughed briefly.
"Haha lad," chuckled the Captain to the Assistant Med Officer.
"I was born in Belfast, in Ireland. I'm a Terran!"
Vorak had walked in during this chat and had approached them quietly.
"Mr McAinmire, I am a Vulcan and I can honestly say that my judgments of his command ability's aside he is most certainly not a Vulcan." He then walked up and handed the Captain a pad of notes.
"Repairs are underway sir; I have begun administering the procedure from the bridge and the engine room. We should be space worthy again in 12 to 18 days."
"Do I have your permission to continue with my duties Captain?" he asked.
Kynes smiled.
"Vorak, if that's the way you want to relax, then by all means, feel free to help the refitting of the Endeavour. You could supervise its reconstruction, and help reshape the vessel
"Indeed, I believe that it will be much more efficant that way" he said and headed off nodding to the new ensign as he arrived.
Rudger saluted the commander as he enters the Cantina. Seeing the captain he approached and said
"Sir, Ensign Rudger Mcvanlen reporting. I am here as part of the new crew and thought I would report as soon as I could. Also to get to know the other officers a bit before I dig into my work" he added. Looking at Lt Macainmire's length of service pins and his face Rudger said
"And hello to you to sir, nice to meet another scot, im from Edinburgh you?" I ask as I order some food from the replicator.

Meanwhile on the Bridge Jade was still working when a young midship man approached and handed her a pad.
"This is from the Captain" he said.
"Thanks...what is it?" she asked.
"Command orders for your promotion to Chief of security" he stated.
"Oh" she said taken of guard "ok."
She scanned it and it was indeed from the Captain. She then heard to sound of laughter and looked up to see her commanding officers and a young Lt speaking. She wanted to join them but part of her as always stopped her from doing so. She returned to her reading, thinking how in the hell she was going to cope being in command of a department.

While McVanlen and McAinmire conversed, Kynes received a high-importance page from the Admiral's office. He would have to go there immediately, to see what was the matter.
"I'm sorry, Mr. McAinmire, but I must be going. Duty calls. Maybe we can eat together some other time..."

Kynes walked into Admiral Dawson's office, and observed Vice Admiral Ter'ek, a Tellarite nod to him in greeting.
"Good evening, Captain Kynes," said Admiral Dawson.
"Is something wrong?" Kynes asked, cutting to the point.
"The Klingon ambassador will be arriving at Starbase 29 tomorrow morning," explained Vice-Admiral Ter'ek.
"Delegates from the Federation will be meeting with the head Ambassador of the Klingon Empire, a noble named Kaa'th. This is an essential time in the unstable peace between the Empire and the Federation. If it is successful, the two civilizations will come much closer to reaching a peaceful amicable end to the years of fighting."

Kynes listened.
"What does this have to do with me, and my crew?"

The vice admiral smiled.
"We know your crew is highly-skilled, and we could use all the help we can get. We would like to use your security teams to maintain the well-being of the peace talk. Currently, we are in short supply of competent security."

"I'll see what I can do," said Kynes.
