ALTAN III PLANETARY ANALYSIS
Altan III is a temperate world, diverse in plantlife and sentient species. The most dominant of these species are the Altanians, a humanoid alien race, capable of space travel. Although the most populated, fertile regions of the world are located near the equatorial boundary; the rest of the terrestrial planet also has satisfactory nutrients and minerals to sustain ample Altanian life.
Formed approximately 3.5 billion years ago, Altan III started off as a sphere of molten rock, much like Earth. After cooling down into a cool liquid state and an atmosphere was formed, the cycle of life commenced upon the planet. Within a course that spanned millions of years, underwater volcanoes erupted, creating landmass. With this disturbance, the planet’s 98 tectonic plates began to move. Many mountainous ranges were therefore composed of Fold Mountains, formed by this period of chaos.
In the time after Altanian culture and technology had proliferated across the planet, Earthquakes were still a great problem, although countless breakthroughs had increased their species resistance towards it’s effects. This determination to overcome the tectonic destruction helped the Altanians to overcome many issues their society posessed. Before the days of Space Travel, and first contact, the Altanians were united under one banner, in an almost obsessive crusade to improve their society and the life of future generations.
As has been depicted within the Altanian History, Space Travel brought on many social problems to the planet. Hostile factions formed, and wars commenced. Consequently, Altan III became a warzone, and this led to their society’s demise. Taking advantage of Altan’s tectonic instabilities, the dominant faction (the remnant of the previous global empire) used a Tectonic Amplifier weapon (the Omir-Jivanal) to shake the targeted plates violently, destroying almost anything over the specified plate. Weapons of mass destruction on all sides were used, and this led to the planet’s loss as a habitable world.
Prior to all of these catastrophes, Altan III was a very pleasant planet. From the Central Nexus (the continent home to the planetary capital) to the Jaxian plains (the most agricultural region of planet) it was a very diverse planet. River systems and Forests were highly abundant on the southern hemisphere, while desert-areas are common in the north; compliments of an anomalous elliptical orbit the planet possesses.
The hottest region of the planet is the Geothermal region in the North East corner of the standard topographical chart. The metals it holds superheat the ground around it, making it a great place for mining and energy harvesting.
The Valen Boreal Provinces were sparse of vegetation, but animals did persist to survive there. However, it is probably best known as the primary home of the Jianxx, the common title for the Barbarians that oppose the general culture’s taste of exploration and progress.
Overall, Altan III was a great planet in many respects, but it’s greatest flaw were the aggressive species it nurtured. In the end, this would prove to be it’s downfall…
