We have tried both and although we tried present everyone slipped back into past by habit. I will vote past tense.

Easily present tense, it makes the story more exciting, and less like 'then they went here, and then here, and then he killed him, and then i gouged my own eyes out, thats the story' sort of dull monitone voice you could imagine a libarian telling you a story that way.
lets have a look at an example of both present and past tense
"Captain!" said Worf, as he leaned over his console. "The Romulans 'can-not' be trusted, we 'would' stand a chance against them sir." claimed worf, he was eager to take action. "No, let us remain on friendly terms as a sign of good faith. We will not open fire, and we will not attempt any aggressive postures on the Romulans. Number one, you have the bridge." The Captain walked away from his seat and he entered his Ready Room.
PRESENT TENSE
"Captain!" Worf says, as he leans over his console "The Romulans 'can-not' be trusted, we 'would' stand a chance against them sir." Worf claims, eager to take action. "No, let us remain on friendly terms as a sign of good faith. We will not open fire, and we will not attempt any aggressive postures on the Romulans. Number one, you have the bridge." Captain Picard walks away and enters his Ready Room.
Now that second one to me sounds way better, don't you guys think?

I agree with Conor. I find myself posting in both on separate occasions. Hard habit to break past tense. But I'd like to see more of it.

More of 'present' tense correct? I mean everyone will just have to try harder really, its not that hard, just the is instead of was, and that now instead of then sorta stuff, its not that hard to pick up really
