this was Karls idea to begin with on the now defunct Bligh but I think it will be a great episode:
The ship crosses known space and come across an M class planet with a warp able civilization, the Derrien. First contact goes well until the crew begin to show signs of a sickness. Worried the Doctor investigates.
The worries are justified as the illness begins to become fatal. Research soon begins to show that it is the Derrien themselves that carry the virus, of which they soon admit. They inform the now mostly ill crew that this had happened once before with another race, the other race did not survive but they were sure it wouldn't happen with other races. They were wrong, and in that neglect the crew may not survive.
