This is the Dominion War from the eyes of two sets of Lovers aboard the USS Solar.
Where Angel's Fear to Tread
Chapter 1: The News
<Late 2373>
<USS Solar>
Captain William Munro, Commanding officer of the USS Solar stood on the Bridge of his ship. Deadly quiet surrounded him. The news had just reached the Solar. The news that a war between the Federation and the Dominion had begun. Officers at their posts simply stared at their own reflection in the control panels. Will however was not that easily fazed well not so much that he'd show it front of his crew, he stood in the Centre of his Bridge a beacon of hope and strength. He tapped his COM badge:
"Munro to all hands, I know your all worried and even a little scared, but we've got a job to do, we've got to no matter our personal feelings get to the front line, Counsellor Durango is available but if you need to see her, see her before we get to the front line. Good Luck"
Ensign Michel Roberts sat in the Ten Forward at the front of the Galaxy class ship. He'd only been out of the Academy a month and all of a sudden there was a war on. He leant over to the table and grabbed his drink of Synthehol and took a large drink. The door on the far side of the room hissed open and Counsellor Durango walked it. Roberts smiled, glad that she'd been able to get to him as quickly
"Ensign Roberts, you asked to see me?" Durango asked as she sat down
"Yes counsellor" Roberts replied "It's because I'm not ready for this, I mean a month out of the Academy and an interstellar war starts?"
"This is your first assignment correct?" Durango said producing a Padd
Roberts nodded
"First assignments are always hard" Durango replied sympathetically "But a war starting isn't exactly the best thing in the Universe is it?"
"Are you reading my mind? Counsellor?" Roberts asked
"You know full well Betazoids think it very improper to read other's thoughts" Durango replied with a slight smile
"I'll keep that in mind"
Will stepped into his ready room and just before the door slid closed a woman slipped through.
"Alexis" Will said turning to face both his first officer and the woman he loved "Where have you been?"
"Baby sitting new recruits mainly" Alexis replied "They are only just out of the academy I don't think they were expecting this"
"I don't think anyone did" Will agreed turning away from Alexis to look out the window, he felt Alexis come behind him and put her arm round him
"Come on we can do this" She said kissing him on the cheek
Will turned to her "You're an amazing woman you know" He said to her bringing his lips to hers.
"Wait till later" Alexis said playfully as she pulled away "Come on we should go back to the Bridge, a united front and all that"
Will smiled "Come on then"
With the ship at warp, helmsman, Ensign Holly Powers didn't have much to do. And to take her mind off this war she thought of a young Engineering ensign she'd beamed in with. She was planning on asking him out later that night and she couldn't wait for her shift to be over. So when twenty minutes later the relief shift arrived she was happy, after briefing the Gamma shift helm officer she walked off the bridge and down to her Quarters. She got changed into some more comfortable clothing and went in search of this Ensign. Good luck seemed to be with her because as she stepped out the door she saw him down the corridor
"Ensign Roberts?" She called "Harry?"
The Ensign stopped and turned "Holly?" He said
Holly smiled and walked over to him "How've you been?" She asked him
"Not bad, you know, bit spooked by this war and that but Durango helped with that" Harry replied "Yourself?"
"I'm ok" Holly said back then throwing caution to the wind "Erm I was wondering if …. Erm you wanted to go for a drink in Ten Forward"
Harry thought for a second
"Well if we're all possibly going to die soon I should take this attractive woman up at her offer" He thought
"I'd love to, when say 2100?" Harry finally said suddenly the ship shuddered "2200?" Then as Red alert sirens came on he amended to "2300?"
Holly merely smiled and ran with him to battle stations which for both of them was engineering as Holly wasn't on Helm duty.
"Ready weapons, raise shields" Will ordered from the centre of the Bridge as he watched three Jem Hadar attack ships approach, off to his left Alexis turned to Tactical
"Commander Richards" She said "Can we take them?"
Richards checked his console "With a good aim and good strategy I'd say so" He finally replied
"Lock weapons" Alexis ordered
The Jem Hadar ships came for another pass
"Fire on the Lead ship" Will ordered, several seconds later several beams of light burst from the ship into the lead ship creating a massive fire ball "Fire Photons!"
The other two more ships were hit.
"Good Work Mr Richards" Will ordered
The Solar emerged from its first battle with the dominion with only light damage and the Jem Hadar ships remaining only as debris.
"Well that was fun" Harry said to Holly a few hours later as he sat down next her on a couch in Ten Forward
"If that is what you consider fun, we're in trouble" Holly joked as a bartender came over with their drinks
"Well maybe funs the wrong word…interesting?" Harry replied taking a sip of his drink
"That's a bit better" Holly commented before looking out at the stars blaze past out the front window
"What a first assignment" Harry said "A war straight away"
"It'd have been that on any ship and you know it" Holly replied
"Well at least on this ship there is an attractive woman" Harry said looking directly at Holly
"Your not so bad yourself" Holly replied
Ten minutes later the Bartender came over and shooed them out
"Where shall we go now?" Harry asked
"We could go to my Quarters" Holly suggested
"Ok, why not" Harry replied
