Vorak stepped onto the bridge to take the shift. It had been an ok night of meditation and rest before taking the early morning shift to be revealed to the science station at mid day. He noticed a new officer with department head colors sitting at navigation. A job that had vacant since Roger's transfer. "Is our course and speed set Navigation?" he asked her.

The young female officer was enjoying a good part of the data bank that had to do with Endeavour's past experences with anomilies and such when sh heard the turbolift open. Morning staff coming in she though to herself. Being new here she decided to arrive early so she could learn more about the ship. Hearing a man's voice she quickly looked at what was being shown to her. "Course and speed are set ...." she paused turning around. Quickly she relized she was talking to a Commader of the vessel. "Commander" she finished. Vulcan a mind of logic and control quite interesting really. "I don't belive we've meet before I'm Ensign Naomi Tanius you?" she asked politlely.

"Commander Vorak, First Officer and Chief of Science" he replied with a respectful nod. He looked her over for a moment. She appeared to be an eager young women who so far was doing a good job of impressing him with her willingness to learn and ability to go beyond duty it would seem. "Are you aware of the helm situation?" he asked her.

"No sir I am not" she half asked half responded. Curious she turnd back around and quickly tried to figure out what he was talking. It wasn't helping much that she wasn't fully familar with this ship yet though she had no intentions to be slowed down. "What would be the situation you speak of?" she asked digging deeper out of her navigational systems. The corse seemed to be tring to divert by 0.072. Minor but she intended to discover why.

"The Chief helm officer is transferring for a temporary command assignment on starbase 98 to better train him in the field. It may only be for a few months but with our mission taking us into deep space we cannot take a replacement at this time. And the other helm officers are all far to young to take a ship of this class until they have been further trained. With means that your station with be cross connected with the helm for the period that he is gone. There will be trainee yeoman to assist you at helm but you will basically be flying and navigating the ship. You have experience in flight control, that I know. The only question remains is do you feel up to the task Ensign?" he asked her.

Two major controls in a new crewmembers hands. That was a unique risk to take but knowing how the Vulcan race was she figured that his logic had a reason. Though she did find it logical she may be young herself but living more than half her life in space she had more experence. "You are correct I have had experence in that field. I accept this responsiblity while the officer is away" she responded a determined look in her eyes. She would do her best in this situation. Transfering helm control to her station she start work on the minor flux there corse was having. She half thought if this mission would take them closer to the border to the Delta Quadrant. She knew here her way around there well which she had a feeling she would need in this mission. "Commander I have been many places in space but sence I am unaware of our current mission statis which direction are we specificly heading?" she asked no oonly because she was curious but it would be wise for her to check for anything that would disrupt the navagational aria.

"We are heading out of known space in the Beta quadrant heading north east for the most part" he replied "we have intelligence that suggests that is where a portal may be that is letting the hostile species the Drengin into our space. Finding and closing it would cut off any threat of an all out invasion as we have heard they are planning. However we are one of 11 vessels doing the same thing in different directions toward that way. Our orders are to chart space and carry out our primary mission to explorer new worlds and expand the federation border, and if we are heading the right way we may known in months or years to come."

Beta ok she had been by that border before on a test ship for higher speeds for faster travel in deep space missions. It wasn't very successful so it had not been used again sense the failed attemp for it to meet Starfleet Security Protocalls. But she had gathered data on surounding things to help expand the knowladge back home. Now that would be useful in this mission. "That part of space is known for random anomalies when we get closer I recomend continious scans" for the most part she was in a deep space mission. But yet it wasn't long enough for it to really be a long term mission. Fixing what appeard to be a minor issue in the power grid the corse now longer showed signs of the diverson. "Days, weeks, months, years time is irrelevent but what we could learn is not. Though getting there will be interesting to most of the crew" she said a smile on her face. It may not be the Delta but that was fine.

"Indeed, who knows what the boundaries will bring and thank you for the information" he replied, he then looked at her again and raised an eyebrow. "Ensign I believe I knew your farther."

"My father?" she asked a little puzzled. Then it occoured to her the Commander had probable been in Starfleet a long time. "Lieutenant Commander Felix Tanius a now retiered Chief Science Officer you know him? Logicly plasable but I am a bit curious how?" she asked now quite curious sure it was possible they knew eachother even worked together but her father proble would of told her. Then and again she'd avoided Earth most of the last few years keeping to space only talking occasionaly. Mamby it was during that time frame.

"I served with him on The USS Phoenix, he was my assistant science chief at the time. This was a good 30 or 40 years ago however on an old constitution class in the days of NCC 1701. I have been in star fleet for a very long time Ensign" he replied.

"I figured as much Vulcans have a long lifespan compared to Humans. My father told me a bit about being aboard the U.S.S. Phoenix. He was still new to being in Starfleet then so was my mother" she said curious exactly how long he had been in the service but when she got around to the Crew Manifest she was sure she would discover that.

"Indeed" he nodded "As you were Ensign, I have reports to deliver to the Captain" he said getting up and walking to the ready room chiming the door, and going in on permission.

Curious to meet the captian she made sure all was fine with helm and navagation before following the Commander. Silently she stood near the door just listening to the captian and the commander. It seemed imeply enough but she was just oberserving seeing what the captian was like. Letting her mind begin to wonder on what she had allready learned here she zoned out on the two allmost forgetting she was there.

Vorak began speaking to Kynes and turned. "Captain this is our new chief of navigation" he introduced her as she stepped in.
