Well all positions lead to command because you are command as soon as you hit captain. So realy they all do, but i think operations normaly leads to command in most cases.

John, I told you on the previous page why that philosophy is incorrect, you don't get given command as soon as you hit Captain, lets clear that up, that doesn't happen. And Lisa, Star Trek II: TWOK doesn't count because as you should be aware, Chekov by then was a Science Officer, not a Navigator such as yourself.

actualy since a captain can only command and cant serve under anyone else (enless hes on an admirals flag) then when you are promoted to captain even if you arein't given a command of your own you are simply put on a waiting list for a ship to need a new captain. so yes all captains are in command. you dont find them being an officer on a ship under another captain now do you?

But hang on, John? is it? What about Scotty and Spock, like Conor pointed out, they both served under Captain Kirk, I mean at first he was an Admiral, granted, but I must agree with Conor, your theory doesn't hold true to the facts... well as in the movie facts, which are as close to facts as you can get for star trek.

*Kills Star treks movie wrighters and re-rights star trek movies with proper ranks and CoC*
not anymore... lol j/k but realy i can't belive they put captains under another captain...never in the histery of the worlds navies have they done that...

How do you know? I mean in most CoCs they have seniority within it, and when Admiral Kirk was demoted two steps to Captain, he would automatically become the highest ranking Captain, not the lowest of course, and Star Treks a bit different from the Navy John

actualy in every millitary service i know (witch is what star treks rank systems are based on) they kick you back to either the seniority you had when you were that rank last. Or all the way back to the lowest of that rank because its a punishment. They arein't going to make you a senior officer if their trying to teach you a lesson now are they? That wouldin't make sence, so even though star trek dosin't do it that way it should.

Well what should and what is are two different things, its quite clear, after going over the same thing twice john, that, captains do not recieve ships as soon as they reach Captain, that is obviously not the case, with plenty of Captains filling other roles such as science medical and engineering, on a starshipor starbase, so they clearly don't

You've got to be joking me? OK, here's one, remember that TNG episode 'The First Duty'? The one where Weasley Crusher crashed his ship, yeah yeah, ok well remember that 'Captain' Vulcan? He didn't have a ship, so at the academy they have them, and also what about officers who are on staff for roles other than starships, john, you've got to get your head aroudn the fact that starfleet isn't just the ships, just like the navy today, isn't just about the ships, sure, the ships are the main thing here, and in the real US Navy, but it isn't the key tihng, and plenty of Colonels/Captains in real life AND in Star Trek, do not have roles that are of a captaincy, lets move on 'finally' shall we?

Captains can still serve on a ship so long as they are under a Admiral

Yep, or under a Captain who outranks them, such as Kirk to Scotty and Spock, and just as you could be one and still have Kynes as a Captain too

I'd have to say my favourite department is Science. Lots of stuff to do there. If we ever have a full active sim in the future, I want to be chief science, or executive.

my fav would have 2 be ned or flight because both hav equally good points about them, as mentioned , med get to outrank anyone, in certain curcumstances but flight gives you that sense of controll which med dousnt offer and of course, without flight, there would be no movement because , each action has an equal and opposite reaction
