Episode XVIII: Fatal Contact

"Thats the funny thing. It be poison for them. There seems ta be very little that wont kill them on tha' planet. Its seems that what is insta-kill for us acts like aging for them."

[Commander Vorak]

"Extremely strange, Doctor I have examined the leaf. Here is the required substance from it" he said handing him a tube "It is now up to you."

[Beathan MacAinmire]

"Alright, so theres the normal human reaction, Jade's reaction, Vorak's, and the Caitian's. So if the bio-generic sequencing is ACTTGCATAG then we wanna change it ta TGAACGTATC. That should fix that part. Then we gota find the fluorescence of the molecule in the leaf. If that gets done then we...."

An hour after he started working, he had to get Jade to help him place the now unconsciousness and declared dead within the next 5 hours.

It was several hours after Vorak's seeming seizure befor he had results. In that time he would every so often, disappear in his office, or in the morgue, perhaps even other medical sections of the deck.

Almost a half an hour before the time he predicted Voracks instant death, he found a cure. A much more permit cure then was given to Jade.

"I'll tes..."wear all Jade could say before Beathan gave her a anesthesia to help her rest, she would be out for only a minute or two. He wasn't going to risk it, on anybody but himself. He injected it and felt fine. No side affects. Good, he thought. He gave some to Jade and Vorak. He then started spreading it in the ventilation ducts before getting the full effects of the drug. A sudden burst of energy then total lose of consciousness. Not to awaken for several hours. He fell asleep happy, he had saved the ship and the Federation.

First Officer Log supplemental Doctor MacAnimire has cured the crew and we are back on course. However the long term damage is not physical and were that world a member of the Federation. It would answer for its crimes. We however cannot pass judgment, just a delayed transmission to Starfleet that the planet is a restricted area at all costs.
Meanwhile the effects of the last few days have left there effects on one crew member indeed.


Vorak walked into the mess hall, the doors sliding back to see Jade standing at the far side of the empty room at this late hour. Starring out to the stars that flashed into warp.
"Ms Jade" he said handing her a handful of PADDs "I was hoping you could hand these to the senior staff. Its their duty rosters for the next several months."

[Lt Matina Jade]

She turned sighing and taking them "What? Oh. Why can't a yeoman do this?" She asked, her trail of thought cut off.

[Commander Vorak]

"Indeed, but my logic was that after your ordeal you may wish to speak to the staff and "mend old bridges" as it were. And this would give you a...reason" He replied.

[Lt Matina Jade]

"You mean and excuse, to keep busy" she took and nodded "ok i'll do it. Have you ever been through somthing like that Commander?"

[Commander Vorak]

"I have not Ms Jade to that extent, and never lost one so dear in a such circumstances. But I have shared it with you" he replied again.

[Lt Matina Jade]

"I know" she says turning back to the window "to me, its like you were there with me. I also understand you far more now. I got so used to hating the Klingons but all along it wasn't them. It was somthing that could have been stopped!" She calmed herself "and now I know the truth it hurts so much more seeing them all die as they did, to see it repeated on this ship. But thank god we only lost one crewman. How many more if I hadn't been onboard?" She sighed to herself, she was not the same Jade as before the anger had subsided and had been replaced with greif.

[Commander Vorak]

He nodded to her "hand them out at your convenience."
Vorak walked from her, leaving her to her thoughts. He knew that it would take her a very long time to get over what had happened.

The Endeavour flies out of the system turning back just this once to pick up replacement crew. Then it would be further into the unknown.
