"Why have you returned?" came the metallic voice. "Because you attacked our vessel" said Vorak. "we will speak only to your Commander." Vorak looked toward Kynes with an expression before sitting at the science station.

"Hail the V'ytorrek," instructed Kynes, recollecting the quick extraction. Apparently, the V'ytorrek were as two sided as they were fascinating. "V'ytorrek, why did you fire on the Endeavour?" demanded Kynes. A screech revereberating through the speakers. "You are false, Federationendeavour. You can't hide the distinctly hostile thought patterns <pzzt> we detected on your ship." Kynes paused for a moment, stunned. "What?!? You endangered the lives of 500 crewmembers, because someone onboard felt hostile towards you?" "That is correct." Kynes regained his temper. "V'ytorrek, please be reasonable. Our species is... cautious towards strangers." The V'ytorrek paused. "We have the ability to sense elementary emotions with our technology, Federationkynes. I sense fear in you..." Suddenly, an idea lit up inside Kynes' mind. He wasn't sure whether it would work or not, but he had to try. The Federation was at stake. "You procrastinate an answer, Federation," said the V'ytorrek voice, this time sounding 'agitated.' Kynes shuddered, but refrained from showing weakness to the crew. "I must consult the leader on this matter. I will contact the government about your proposal from the... communications... lab." Kynes hoped his deceit would not be picked up by the V'ytorrek thought sensors. Even they had admitted their thought reading technology was rudimentary. "It is understood. You shall contact your government. You have one Varian temporal rotation. Kynes nodded. The viewscreen went blank. "Commander Vorak," started Kynes. "Come with me to the Computer Core. We need to modify some information..."

"Understood" he said and followed "Mr wainer, come with us also" he said and entered the turbolift with them. "Captain, I regret to inform you we have no communications lab" he spoke.

Kynes smiled. "I am well aware of that, Commander. I have a plan in mind, that I hope may convince the V'ytorrek to leave the Federation alone for the time being." As they exited the turbolift, they entered the main computer core, the heart of the Artificial Intelligence onboard Endeavour. "Help me open up the hatch," said Kynes, as they both unscrewed the bulkhead for the Databanks. "Emergency," beeped the computer. "Computer security has been compromized!" "Security Override Kynes 10KA6V," said the Captain. The alarm klaxon stopped. The two officers stepped into the databanks, both carefully weaving their way through the columns of computer storage banks. "I have a mind to create a new ally for the Federation," said Kynes, smirking. "One far more powerful then even the V'ytorrek."

"Here's my idea," said Kynes with a smile. "We've detected the scans and downloads by the V'ytorrek of our computer database. As they are only a single ship, they would not be able to withstand a fleet of vessels stronger then them. They are new to this quadrant, so whatever is in our database, they'll perceive as the truth..." Kynes started to install chips into the Alien Species catalog. "I've made an extra entry into the inhabitants of the Alpha Quadrant," said Kynes. "The Ghierans. They have transwarp capabilities, transphasic torpedoes, and advanced temporal weaponry. They far outmatch the V'ytorrek, except for one small setback. They aren't real! I've also added the touch that they are one of the Federation's staunchest allies, and that they have agreed to protect the Federation from fierce invaders. I only hope that this may help the V'ytorrek to think twice about their occupation of the Federation for the time being..."

Kynes shook his head in stress. It wasn't a foolproof plan, but it would have to work. And if it did, it would give the Federation a little while to dissect the technology the V'ytorrek posessed. "Alright, initiate the download sequence." Within a nanosecond, the Alien race log was downloaded onto the Endeavour's computer database. "Hail the Aeion Zeir," said Kynes, standing on the bridge. An audio only response came back. "Federation..." said the V'ytorrek. "Has your government been informed <pzzt> of the new political regime?" they asked Endeavour. Kynes nodded slowly, despite the fact that the V'ytorrek were not monitoring them on a visual wavelength. "Yes, and they have contacted the Ghierans. The Gheirans are one of our most powerful allies, and they have agreed to aid us in the Federation's defense, should you invade our territories." Kynes awaited a response, to define the ending of this series of events. Instead, there was none. The V'ytorrek vessel hung in midspace.

Vorak had come back to the bridge with the other officers and taken his postion. This entire thing bothered him. They would be sure to return, he began to scan as much of the vessel as he could in the time he had. An what seemed like a flash the vessel was gone. "Suprior Engine power also it would seem" commented Vorak. "Communications," he said taking over a translusent green hexagon "transfer this data to starfleet priory alert, inform them of what has happened and request permission to proceed with our explorion mission due north."

When the V'ytorrek finally responded, their transwarp engines were powering up. "Your ally will be dealt with," they said. "The Council has decided that the Federation is not ready to join the New Directorate. We shall return when we deem you fit for service. <pzzzzzt>" The screen went blank, and within a few seconds, the VDV Aeion Zeir had disappeared into the blank mist of space. Finally, the Federation was safe, for the time being...
It was now time for the USS Endeavour to continue their mission of deep space exploration, to discover the wonders that lay behind the veil of darkness...
